Bike Helmet Statistics: 51 Stats on Usage and Safety
While riding your bike it’s a good idea to protect yourself by using a helmet. Your head is obviously a very important part of your body to protect, to prevent brain injuries and death from occurring upon impact. As more people globally turn to bikes, in some countries (as well as cities), such as Australia, it’s a legal requirement to wear a helmet while riding a bike. Not only that, but the helmets have to be approved by the government and fastened up properly. Elsewhere, helmets should be marked with the safety standard EN 1078 for adults or EN 1080 for children, to show they’ve passed safety regulations. But are helmets really needed? In many countries such as the Netherlands…
Best Bike Helmet to Avoid Helmet Hair [3 Hair-Friendly Helmets]
There’s no two ways about it: wearing a bike helmet is absolutely essential, no matter where you ride, how far you ride, or where you’re riding to. However, helmets are infamous for ruining any hair styling efforts, even leaving an unsightly red sweaty mark across your forehead, and no-one wants to arrive at work or social event rocking that look. It can, therefore, feel like you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either you put your safety first and wear a helmet but arrive at your destination looking a bit of a state, or you forgo the helmet to protect your hair and put yourself at risk of serious head injury, or worse, if you come off your…
Unit 1 FARO Smart Helmet Review [World’s Safest Helmet?]
Helmets aren’t what they used to be. In yesteryear, their sole purpose was to protect your head in the event of a crash or fall. But the times, they are a-changin’. First the helmets got lighter and prettier – making them more appealing to wear. Which is great. But over the past few years, we’ve seen a new wave of smart bike helmets – which aim to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. The primary way this is achieved is by adding built-in lights (such as indicators and brake lights) so that cyclists can be better seen and their movements understood. And those are just some of the things that the Unit 1 FARO Smart Helmet can do….
How Much Should I Spend on a Bicycle Helmet? [ANALYSIS]
Cycling is one of the most social media friendly pursuits in the world. It provides colour, incredible landscapes (urban or rural) and gives off a whiff of health and mental alacrity. It also provides frame after frame of cool shots, and images of movement, fun and dynamism. And fashion. There is so much more clothing available to anyone who enjoys cycling than was around fifteen years ago, and in many more ranges too. Although there is some way to go in providing adequate and stylish clothing for every shape and size of body, the same cannot be said for bicycle helmets. The breadth of sizes, options, accessories, fashion, aerodynamics, and colours can all be subsumed by one factor. They have…
How Long Do Bike Helmets Last? [When to Replace Helmet]
The wearing of bicycle helmets is one of the most divisive hot takes of cycling in the 21st century. Academic studies, motoring safety surveys and urban cycling gurus offer a spectrum of analyses as to the reasons why we do or do not wear them. Everyone agrees that they reduce the chances of head-injury. Once you reach adulthood, your head stops growing, and you get round to making a long-term choice of your lid. Some are aerodynamic, some are packed with additional technology like the MIPS system (which we discuss here), some can have a novelty twist, or be foldable to suit your needs. They all generally have a core feature of a moulded block of polystyrene foam (EPS), with…
