The bunny hop is one of the most useful skills in mountain biking. It is an excellent way to clear objects such as logs and rocks, without having to get off your bike.
There are basically two ways to do a bunny hop, the real way (much harder, but more useful), and the “cheaters” way (easy, but more limiting). I’m going to explain the real way, (at the bottom, I explain the easy way)
The Good Way
This is the best way to do a bunny hop. You are able to jump higher and clear larger objects. It’s a little harder to learn and get good at, but in the end, it’s much better. You should learn this on a bike without clipless pedals or toe clips. If your mountain bike has either, take them off or use a bike without them.
The Easy Way
This is simple, all you have to do is put clipless pedals (or toe clips) on your bike, then crunch down really low on your bike, jump up and pull with your feet. Your bike should go up with you. This way isn’t as good, because you can’t jump as high, and it’s more difficult to clear larger objects.
