VUELTA’22 Stage 1 TTT: Jumbo-Visma Straight to the Top!

Vuelta Stage Report: Stage 1 of the 2022 Vuelta a Espaa through the streets of Utrecht was won by the very powerful Jumbo-Visma team. It wasn’t the winner of the previous three Vueltas that pulled on the leaders red jersey, but Robert Gesink.Stage 1 highlightsA storming ride by Jumbo-VismaJumbo-Visma has had an excellent start to the Vuelta a Espaa. In Utrecht, the Dutch team set the fastest time over the 23.3 kilometre team time trial. Robert Gesink was the first rider to cross the line and the first overall leader.Fernando Escartn: “An inaugural time trial longer than that of previous editions. 23.3 km that will cross Utrecht through its wide avenues, without technical difficulties. No significant differences are expected among the leading teams. Dutch fans, who are truly passionate about cycling, will guarantee spectator success.”Two years later than originally planned, the Vuelta a Espaa started in Utrecht. The Spanish Grand Tour should have been in the Netherlands in 2020, but, as we know Covid-19 put it on hold. Vuelta race director Javier Guilln had not forgotten Utrecht.
